Pharmacological Actions:
Curcuma longa (Turmeric): The active principle of turmeric is known as curcumin. Curcumin is the most potent natural organic compound for healing. Used orally, curcumin exhibits many direct anti-inflammatory effects, including inhibition of platelet aggregation, promotion of fibrinolysis, inhibition of neutrophil and stabilization of cell membranes, thereby preventing the release of inflammatory mediators. Curcuma longa extract was shown in study to inhibit the growth of microrganisms such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Bacillus, Entamoeba histolytica and several pathogenic fungi. Turmeric is useful in treating a number of conditions, including eczema, psoriasis and fungal infection such as athlete's foot.
Aloe vera (Aloe) : It contains a number of compounds necessary for wound healing including prostaglandin and fatty acid compounds. It has action of antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Aloe vera also enhances cell-wall permeability, increasing cell access to nutrients and facilitating the removal of toxins from the cell. It is remarkably effective in wounds and burns, speeding up the rate of healing and reducing the risk of infection. It enhances skin regeneration.
Lawsonia alba (Henna): It is used as remedy for boils, wounds to possess antimicrobial activity. The extract of Lawsonia alba has been reported for its antimicrobial activity against Staph. aureus, Strep. pyogenes and Proteus species. Thus, it is extensively useful in treating skin inflammation, bruise, wounds of circurcision and leprosy.
Emblica officinalis (Amla): It has the richest source of Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and vitamin C in nature. Natural vitamin C is crucial for the proper function of the enzyme protocollagen hydroxylase, which produces collagen that heals a wound and the key component in blood vessel wall. Vitamin C plays a variety roles in stimulating the immune system and enhancing wound healing. SOD encourage new tissue to grow and to enhance collagen and reduce swelling.
Wounds treated with SOD have shown to heal better and more quickly. SOD and vitamin C is known as immunoenhancement for the rapid healing of various infections.
Indication:
Oral herbal formulation for the treatment of burns, lacerated wounds, surgical wounds and ulcers.
Side effects:
Mild hypoglycaemic effect.
Contraindications:
Intestinal obstruction, acute intestinal inflammation eg. typhoid,
appendicitis, acute colitis, inflammatory bowel disease such as
ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, abdominal pain of unknown
origin.
Dosage:
One tablet two times daily after meal.
