Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass®
COMPOSITION
Each caplet contains
standardized wheatgrass dried powder ..... 500 mg
PLANT DESCRIPTION
Wheatgrass grown outdoors in its natural climate. When wheat seeds are
planted, the leaves grow 7 - 10 inches above the soil. The root system
already reaches deep below the frost line, preparing to sustain the
plant's life during the cold winter months to come. During winter
season, the roots slowly absorb and store nutrients from the soil. In
the spring the wheat plant again converts sun light into energy, and
utilizes the nutrients stored in its roots to transform simple sugars
into complex carbohydrates, vitamins, amino acids and other nutrients.
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIONS
Wheatgrass is powerful because it is full of chlorophyll. Once the wheat
grain has germinated, it harnesses the energy of the sun and transform
it in the process we know as photosynthesis. The electrons in cells
called chloroplasts are excited by sunlight. In this way they are
charged with energy which is stored as chlorophyll. This reduces the
carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the water in the plant into oxygen
and carbohydrates in many forms. This growth in green cells synthesises
many complex substances from simpler ones.
1. Wheatgrass is the complete food of so many
animals, it contains a very broad spectrum of vitamins and minerals. A
shot of wheatgrass juice is like a single complete supplement. It has
all the B group vitamins; indeed it is a vegetable source of vitamin
B12, and also vitamins A, C, E and D. Wheatgrass is rich in minerals,
major and minor. It contains calcium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus,
potassium, zinc and selenium. These are minerals important for
cardiovascular and immune system function. For healing purposes,
potassium ions are particularly vital to balance the composition of body
fluids, and thus its alkalinity.
2. The chlorophyll molecule itself is structurally
very similar to the iron-carrying component of haemoglobin. Studies have
shown that anaemic animals restored by ingesting chlorophyll rich foods.
3. Wheatgrass is highly active chemically and
contains over 80 enzymes. These are used for digestion, but also to
detoxify harmful substances, and partake in the many chemical changes in
the body necessary for the maintenance of good health. Wheatgrass
enhances cell vigour.
4. Chlorophyll has strong anti-oxidant properties. It
can strip out free radicals, which are a damaging by-product of
metabolism. Free radicals encourage an acidic cell environment,
contribute to the aging process and have been implicated in the
development of some cancers. Anti- oxidant activity by wheatgrass ‘mops
up’ the free radicals and restores the chemical balance of cells.
5. It has been reproted that the incidenec of cancer
is much lower in people who take leafy green vegetables (chlorophyll).
