Hypertension is a world-wide problem affecting millions of people. In Myanmar, hypertension is also affecting about 23% of population with the age of 20 years and over. Newly occuring hypertensive cases are increasing year by year because of changing life style.

If hypertension is not treated properly and effectively, complications and sequelae of hypertension will occur. Hypertension will accelerate the atherosclerotic process in the blood vessels of all organs of the body especially brain, heart and kidneys which will result in insufficient blood flow to these organs. Finally, it will cause stroke, heart attack, heart and kidney failure, and death. Therefore, hypertension could be regarded a “silent killer”.

Although, hypertension has been conventionally treated with Western antihypertensives, patients fail to comply with them because of their considerable side-effects in the long-run. Therefore, FAME Pharmaceuticals is now producing Normosin for treating hypertension, which is scientifically developed with reputed natural herbs.

Composition

Each tablet contains:
Plantago major extract ................................ 60 mg
Moringa oleifera extract .............................. 60 mg
Arundo donax extract ................................... 40 mg
Terminalia arjuna extract ............................. 20 mg
Allium sativum extract ................................. 20 mg

Pharmacological actions

Plantago major: Leaves contain glucosides aucubin, a new flavonoide glycoside, homoplantaginin, saponins and bitter compounds. Seeds contain 0.183% holoside planteose. Urosolic acid, N-hentriacontane, steryl ester and b-sitosterol were isolated from the whole plant.

Moringa oleifera : Alkaloid and gum present in the plant. Alkaloid moringine and moriginine are isolated from the root bark of the plant. Flowers contain amorphous base.

Arundo donax : Roots of Arundo donax has diuretic action and thus lowering the blood pressure.

Terminalia arjuna : Arjuna is beneficial for angina and poor coronary circulation. It is also benefit if the heart's rate and rhythm are abnormal. By lowering blood cholesterol levels, reducing blood pressure, and supporting normal heart function.

Allium sativum (Garlic) : Garlic contains 0.1-0.36% volatile oil compose of diallyl disulfide and diallyl trisulfide, and minerals such as calcium, iron and potassium. It is estimated that if the blood pressure lowering effects of garlic can be maintained, the risk of stroke may be reduced by 30-40% and the risk of heart attack by 20-50%. It has been shown to decrease systolic pressure by 20-30 mmHg and diastolic pressure by 10-20 mmHg in people with high blood pressure.
The ability of this combination is to increase the control rate in hypertension and to prevent the development of complication.

Treatment of Hypertension

Dosage

• For severe hypertension (over 160/100 mmHg at age 20, 170/110 mmHg at age 50) one tablet three times daily half an hour before meal.
• For moderate hypertension (blood pressure between 140/90 mmHg and 160/100 mmHg at age 20, 160/95 mmHg and 170/110 mmHg at age 50) one tablet two times daily half an hour before meal.
• For mild hypertension (140/90 mmHg at age 20, 160/95 mmHg at age 50) one tablet once a day, half an hour before meal.
  

Side effects

None in recommended dose.

Caution:
Children under 12 years, pregnancy and lactating mother should be only used under the supervision of physician.
