Pharmacological actions:

Eclipta alba : It is the best herb for the treatment of liver cirrhosis and infective hepatitis. It is widely used in India for liver enlargement, jaundice and other ailments of the liver and gall bladder. Eclipta conveyed complete protection effect on the liver cells and can prevent liver damage caused by liver toxins like carbon tetrachloride, phalloidin etc. The active ingredient is wedelolactone which can also lower serum transaminase level.

Glycyrrhiza glabra : The active principle is glycyrrhizinic acid which inhibits chemical-induced liver damage and detoxify hundreds of toxic substances. It acts by preventing the liver cells from free radicals attack as well as inhibiting free radicals formation.

Phyllanthus niruri : This herb containing lignans, alkaloids and bioflavonoids acts primarily on the liver and has an antihepatotoxic effect. This action in the liver confirms its historical use as a remedy for jaundice. The antihepatotoxic activity of Phyllanthus was attributed to two compounds in the plant called phyllanthin and hypophyllanthin in a 1985 study by Indian researchers. (Syamosundar kv et al)

Picrorhiza kurroa : In standardized form, studies have shown that it is capable of protecting the liver against a range of chemicals as well as alcohol. Active standardized extract of Picrorhiza called picroliv which contains kutkin, the herb's active agent, demonstrated protective effects against liver toxins. (Ansari R.A et al Ind. J Med. Res 1988) Kutkin's antioxidant activity has been shown to decrease levels of lipid peroxidases and hydroperoxidases, free radical producing agents, and facilitate the recovery of SOD (Superoxide dismutase) enzyme, a powerful antioxidant in the liver needed to prevent oxidative damage. Kutkin also possesses potent antibacterial and immunomodulating properties. The liver protective properties of picroliv are supported by published studies showing the positive effect of the extract on bile secretion and in supporting liver function. A healthy liver would be able to perform detoxification processes more efficiently.

Ganoderma lucidum : Ganoderma lucidum results in the lowering of liver enzymes SGPT and SGOT levels to normal. Extract when administered concurrently with glutathione, proved to be beneficial against hepatic necrosis and hepatitis.

Andrographis paniculata : The herb is reported to possess astringent, anodyne, tonic and alexi-pharmic properties and is helpful as hepatoprotective, antihepatotoxic, choleretic and liver tonic. It also appears to stimulate gall bladder contraction. The extract and its active constituents, andrographolides were found to have liver protective properties. These compounds helped to increase bile flow and repair chemically induced liver damage, in laboratory trials.

Emblica officinalis : It is the richest source of natural vitamin C and enhance the absorption of HEPATEC®. It has antioxidant action that is enhancing liver regeneration, inhibiting liver damage and preventing cirrhosis of liver.

Aloe vera : They become incorporated into the cellular membrane and make the cell more resistant to viruses and pathogenic bacteria. They enhance the macrophage's effectiveness in modulating the entire immune system and stimulate the release of antibodies (increasing the body's own production of interferon, interleukins and more). It also stimulates hepatic regeneration.

Piper nigrum : It stimulates the thermal receptors and increases secretion of saliva and gastric mucosa. It has antimicrobial effect. It influences liver and metabolic function.

Grape Seed Extract : One of its active principles, proanthocyanidin has protective effect on acetaminophen induced hepatic DNA damage, apoptosis and necrotic cell death of liver cell. It also has antioxidant and anticirrhosis action.

Indications:

Prevention and treatment of hepatitis, liver damage, fatty liver, alcoholic liver disease and cirrhosis of liver and general liver tonic.

Side effects:

No side effects in recommended dose. After 3 to 6 months of continous treatment, it is possible to cause dryness of mouth and throat, itchiness, and stomach upset.

Contraindication:

None.

Caution

Do not exceed recommended dose in case of pregnancy, lactating mother.children under
12 years of age. Decrease the dose in renal disease as directed by physician. In case of
surgical operation, HEPATEC ^®  should be discontinued 2 weeks before elective surgery
to reduce the ridk of bleeding during or after operation.

Dosage:

One capsule two times daily.
