Echinacold®

(Natural supplement for acute respiratory tract infection)

Acute respiratory tract infections(ARI) are among the most important human health problems because of their high incidence and consequent economic costs. The majority of respiratory infections are confined to the upper respiratory tract and most of these are simple coughs or colds. Nevertheless, persons afflicated with the common cold ingest a wide variety of over-the-counter preparations and prescription drugs, which they hope will cure the illness or relieve its symptoms, and many adults consider these remedies to be effective. Much of the therapy given to children is based on experience with these preparations in adults. While it is clear that we are unable to cure the common cold, it is unclear how much we can really relieve the symptoms without risking toxicity in children. There is a growing consensus in the medical literature that many classes of preparations provide little (if any) relief of symptoms, and they exhibit significant undesirable effects. Recently, herbal medication plays an important role in the treatment of ARI. Echinacold ® is the effective and cost benefit formulation in the treatment of ARI.

Composition:

Each tablet contains;

Echinacea purpurea extract .............. 300 mg
Piper betle extract ............................ 50 mg
Piper nigrum extract ......................... 50 mg
Zingiber officinale extract .................. 50 mg
Solanum indicum extract ................... 50 mg

Echinacea purpurea is the most potent ancient herbal medicine for natural immunity, antiinflammatory and antiallergy. This plant also has some short term activity against influenza, herpes, vesicular stomatitis and other infectious microorganisms. It has long been used in herbal medicine. This plant is cultivated in Shan State, Myanmar.

Pharmacological Actions:

  1. Immunostimulating effect:
Echinacold ® has no direct bactericidal or bacteristatic properties. Its benefical effects in the treatment of infection are caused by its ability to act as an immunostimulant. It stimulates the non-specific immune system, resulting an increase in phagocytosis. Arabinogalactan, a highly purified polysaccharides from the constituents of Echinacea is effective in activating macrophage cytotoxic actions against micro-organisms. In addition, the polysaccharides have an anti-hyaluronidase action thus may be lessened the spread of infectious agent in the body.

  2. Antiviral effect:
Echinacold ® also has some short term viral resistance against influenza, herpes, vesicular stomatitis virus and others. Research on Echinacea shown that it can shorten the duration and decrease the severity of cough and cold symptoms. It is also effective as prophylaxis for cold and influenza.

  3. Anti-inflammatory effect:
The constituents of Echinacea contain polyunsaturated alkamides which exert anti-inflammatory effects through inhibition of cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase. It was effective in treating several types of inflammatory skin condition including eczema.

Indications:

Respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia influenza and common cold.

Contraindication:
