Alternative to antibiotic for diarrhea

Composition:

Each capsule contains extracts of “dried powder” of the following herbs:

Pharmacological actions:

Quisqualis indica, Lawsonia alba and Leucaena glauca possess antibacterial property against Escherichia coli, Shigella species and Vibrio cholerae . They do not kill normal bacterial flora of intestine in vitro model. The extracts of these plants have been also evaluated for their antibacterial or antidysenteric and antidiarrhoeic activity in vitro model.

Ferula foetida :

It has mild intestinal antiseptic and antiflatulent effects.

Acacia catechu :

Black catechu is a strong astringent and clotting agent. It helps reduce excess mucus in the large bowel.

Zingiber officinale :

Ginger is an excellent remedy for many digestive complaints such as indigestion, nausea, gas distension and colic. It also has carminative, antiemetic and spasmolytic actions.

Indications:

Bacilliary dysentery and bacterial diarrhea.

Advantages over antibiotic:

•  Do not kill normal flora.
•  No intestinal absorption.
•  No systemic side effect.
•  Low cost

Side effects:

None in recommended dose.

Drug combination:

Diarstat^®can be used together with antibiotic (eg. ciprofloxacin, chloramphenicol) of western medicine in severe case of diarrhea and bacillary dysentery. It can also be used together with Dysenzi^® or metronidazole to obtain broad spectrum effet on dysentery.

Caution:

Consult with physician in the case of pregnancy, lactating mother and children under 2 years. Replace the cap tightly just after opening. Store in a cool and dry place.

Dosage:

18 years and above - two capsules
12 to 17 years - one capsule
6 to 11 years - half capsule
5 years and below - one-fourth capsule
To be used two times a day before meal for three to five consecutive days or as directed by the physician.
