PHYTOCHEMISTRY

Quercetin,one of the bioflavonoids, comprise a group of plant pigments that provide excellent cellular protection by modifying the acton of allergens, carcinogens and viruses. It is found in various often-consumed foods, seeds, nuts, flowers, barks, leaves and many other.

PHARMACOLOGICALACTION

1. Antioxidant properties

As a potent antioxidant, quercetin has been found to help reduce the risk of coronary heart di sease.In the cardiovascular system,it prevents free radicals from oxidizing low density lipoproteins ( LDL ) or bad cholestrol.Quercetin has a positive effect on dangerous excess iron and slows the buildup of abnormal-sticky platelets in the blood stream.Excess iron and sticky platelets are thought to be significant rick factors in atherosclerosis, which leads to heart attack and stroke.Therefore, flavonoid intake decreased mortality from coronary heart disease and additionally decreased the incidence of the first heart attack.

2. Anti-inflammatory properties

Quercetin's anti-inflammatory activity appears to be due to inhibitory effects on inflammation-producing enzymes(cyclo-oxygenase,lipooxygenase) and the subsequent inhibition of inflammatory mediators, including leukotrienes and prostaglandins.Inhibition of  histamine release by mast cells and basophils also contributes to quercetin's anti-inflammatory activity. Therefore, it can also be used in allergies patient , asthma and hay fever.

3. Anti-tumour proterties

Quercetin has demonstrated its ability to reduce tumour incidence which attests to its ability to neutralize oxidants within cellular material.Therefore quercetin has demonstrated significant antitumor activity against a wide range of cancers, including squamous cell carcinoma, leukemia, and cancers of the breast, ovaries, colon, prostate rectum and brain.

No health hazards (or) side effects from the use of quercetin have been reported.It has wide margin of safety or none in recomended dose.

One tablet two times daily half hour before meal.
